Daphne found an old Karaoke microphone of mine packed away in a drawer this week. A new game she invented called "la la la" has us doubling over in laughter. First, she runs up to the nearest person extending the microphone to their mouth until they sing, "la la la" into the mic. With both hands gripping the microphone, Daphne skips to the open area in front of the TV and performs a concert of Daphne gibberish (i.e., she dances and somehow manages to get tangled up in the cord while belting out her own interpretation of "la la la").

After working nearly six hours in the yard (mowing, weed-eating, trimming hedges, spraying shrubs with chemicals to prevent scale, spreading ant-block pellets, etc), I had built quite an appetite. Jennie, her parents, and Daphne spent the afternoon at a local park (hiking and enjoying the outdoors) while I trimmed our jungle of grass. If I were a betting man, I would wager it rained just about every day over the last two weeks. I am still beating myself up over not aerating the yard this past year. It really would have made a noticeable difference. Oh well, in the words of my former CIO, "you can polish a turd all you want, but it's still a turd". hehehe

I will try to take some video of Daphne this week if I can remember to charge my camcorder's battery. New photos coming soon!

No news to report on our house. Can you believe that no one has toured our castle in over two weeks? Our house information flyers on the FOR SALE sign keep disappearing at a healthy pace (20 to 30 per week taken), but no nibbles...

Until tomorrow,

Pardon the typographical error in my previous post. Daphne only weighs 23.6 pounds (not 33.6). It was late and I goofed!

Happy 145th anniversary to Jennie and me! 12 years and one month ago we were married here in Nashville. What can you possibly buy your wife for her 145th anniversary? Hmmm...

Daphne loves to examine the mailbox for new mail each day. She gleefully waves to passing cars and planes overhead while screaming, "Bye!" at the top of her lungs. Always smiling ear-to-ear, Daphne is transforming into a social butterfly and a dramatic little princess. Today at her zoo class, she was able to pet a giant skink (lizard) and a hedgehog after learning about them.

Here are some new photos of Daphne running around the house just before bedtime:

Happy First Day of Autumn!

The fall weather is on its way (temperatures are beginning to dip here in middle Tennessee). With all of the rain recently, I truly feel like we live in Seattle. Will it ever stop?

Daphne has nearly recovered from her nasty cold. A slight cough and a little bit of congestion is all that remains of her illness. She weighed in at 33.6 pounds today (unofficially) on our bathroom scale.

Some new phrases Daphne has acquired over the last week or so: "hep" (help), "mohr muck" (more milk), "mine" (mine, give it to me), "hoss" (horse), and "light" (light). I know I am forgetting some other phrases, but she's also beginning to form small 2 and 3 word sentences --- they don't always make sense, but she's trying!

Here are some new photos of Daphne enjoying her toy car:

Daphne has been very sick this week... ergo, my lack of blogging.

Her drippy nose, low-grade fever, frequent vomiting, and hoarse cough prompted us to haul her to the doctor's office today. Luckily, she does not have the swine flu or bird flu. The bad news is that her breathing is labored and wheezy. Daphne had a positive response to an Albuterol treatment (bronchodilator inhalation therapy) which means she *might* develop Asthma (but children commonly grow out of it).

On a lighter note, here's a clean joke from a friend of mine: What is the difference between the swine flu and the bird flu? One requires Tweetment and the other requires Oinkment... hehehe

We have no news to report on our house and no one has toured it this week.

Milestone: Daphne ate peanut butter and tree nuts without any allergic reaction! Although no history of nut allergy exists in mine or Jennie's known lineage, we followed the doctor's advice and patiently waited to expose Daphne to various nuts. She was a little apprehensive at first with peanut butter, but now she loves it! I wish I had taken a picture of her attacking the spoon with her little tongue (it was comical).

Over the weekend, Daphne insisted on taking one final dip in her pool before the cold weather comes our way. The swim classes Daphne attended this summer really conquered her fear of water being poured over her head. When water splashes Daphne's face, she giggles instead of the wailing, screaming, and crying behavior we used to witness.

Daphne has really grown quite fond of coloring. She takes various colors in each hand and makes a strong left to right sweeping motion (while paying no attention to the paper she is coloring on). Picasso Daphne autographs each print with her own signature style. I have several of these artistic masterpieces to place in my cubicle at work...

Here are some new photos of Daphne for your enjoyment (sorry, a few taken with my iPhone in poor lighting conditions are slightly blurry):

Daphne enjoyed another busy, fun-filled week with zoo class on Wednesday and library story day on Friday. She is such a little sponge right now -- she mimics us and loves to constantly learn new words and phrases! We are trying to expose her to as many educational activities as we possibly can.

Tonight Jennie, her parents, Daphne, and I attended the opening of the Tennessee State Fair. We ate tasty carnival food (high calorie, unhealthy morsels), watched a local band perform a few songs while Daphne danced (she's got great rhythm!), and walked a lot (hey, we needed to burn off that food we ate). Daphne's facial expressions were priceless as she toured the exhibits with cows, goats, pigs, bunnies, et al. She is such an animal lover...

Well, our house is still for sale and we have not had any serious offers to this point. Maybe this upcoming week will be magical and the perfect buyer will appear?

New photos of Daphne will be posted soon.

Until tomorrow,

I hope you had a terrific holiday weekend full of rest and relaxation!

Daphne had a routine doctor visit today for her 18-month old check up.
Here are her vitals:

HEIGHT - 32.25 inches (68th percentile) up from 51st percentile at last visit.
WEIGHT - 22 pounds 13 ounces (28th percentile) up from 14th percentile.
HEAD CIRCUMFERENCE - 17.68 inches (11th percentile) down from 16th percentile.
BODY MASS INDEX - 15.4 (14th percentile) up from 4th percentile.

So, Daphne's height has exploded upwards (could she play basketball?) and her weight is progressing nicely (doubling in percentile). Her doctor is pleased with her overall health and development despite her petite noggin and skinny frame. She's still my perfect little angel!

This morning our realty company called and informed us that not one, but two more families wanted to tour our house today! As of this posting, we have not received any new purchase offers (but we are crossing our fingers for tomorrow). Hey, that's a great sign -- our house has been on the market nearly three weeks and has already been shown to three different families. In this economy, it seems a FOR SALE sign in your yard must translate to "hey, make me a ridiculously low offer and I'll eventually crumble".

Daphne has increased her vocabulary again. A sampling of her newest words are "eggie" (egg), "bwock-lee" (broccoli), "tose" (toast), "wok" (walk), "hebbee" (heavy), "muck" (anything liquid, but usually milk), "bell-bow" (elbow), "tees" (cheese), "nanny" (banana), "cup" (cup), "Mee-mee" (Grandma - Jennie's Mom), "Pop-pop" (Grandpa - Jennie's Dad), and my favorite word of all-time: "Dad-dee". Granted, she says "cookie" a lot while reaching for the pantry door and loves to proclaim "what-tee" anytime she sees water. While Daphne absolutely LOVES "Mel-moe" (Elmo), she can name most of the Sesame Street cast of characters -- "buhr-dee" (Big Bird), "ehr-nee" (Ernie), "butt" (Burt), "ab-bee" (Abby), "go-vuh" (Grover), etc.

Here are some new photos taken yesterday for your viewing pleasure:

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

I will post some new photos of Daphne this weekend for your enjoyment.

We had lots of drama earlier in the week: a family from "out-of-town" toured our house, made an extremely low offer, we countered, they countered our counter, we countered their counter of our counter, they toured our house a second time, and finally, the family decided to move on to another less expensive part of town...

It's late and I need to get some sleep.

Until tomorrow,

Daphne attended her weekly "Day at the Zoo" class today while our house was being shown to potential purchasers. Hopefully, our realtor will phone us tomorrow and fill us in on any new developments.

Daphne's newest words are: "monkey", "hop, hop, hop" (when wanting a ride on my back), "light" (while standing on a chair and turning the light switch on and off repeatedly), "muck" (when wanting some milk), "cookie" (when wanting anything sweet), "bobby" (when wanting to nurse with Mommy), and "no, no, no" (when she realizes that she has done something bad while shaking her finger and smiling).

Here are some new bath photos of Daphne from tonight:

Great news! Someone actually scheduled a house tour with our realtor for Wednesday. Could this be the potential buyer for whom we are waiting? Probably not, but it does restore our faith in the selling process. I know the house has only been on the market for two weeks, but it feels like an eternity! I am trying so hard to keep my expectations low, but it's tough.

Daphne's summer cold has nearly run its course (hoarse cough, drippy nose, low-grade fever). Jennie began displaying the early symptoms of the cold this morning. It is only a matter of time before I am sick, too. Yuck! Don't you hate that dizzy nausea (swimmy head feeling) when you first come down with a cold?

Well, I promise to post some new photos of Daphne-doodle before the weekend.

Hockey season is almost here! Yay! Only a week and a half until training camp begins...

Until tomorrow,
Dave T.
