We now have access to the internet in our new house! Yay! It's been rough going several days without TV or internet service... so now, I really have no excuse for not blogging. I will post some new photos of Daphne soon.

I have been out of town the past few days attending my Grandmother's funeral service in east Tennessee. Jennie and Daphne stayed home and held down the fort (several appointments & service installations were previously scheduled). Yesterday, our local natural gas provider dug up our front yard with a backhoe. Oh yippee...

We closed on our new house last night from 5 to 7pm. Yay! We have a mortgage again... This weekend we will begin to transition out of our temporary apartment into our home. There is no rush as we have the apartment rented for another 5 weeks.

If anyone has some free time and wants to help us get our junk from point A to point B, we will make it worth your trouble. Luckily, our new house is only two and a half miles down the road from our apartment. I foresee many small trips back and forth over the weekend...

New photos will be posted tonight!

Evening update: I posted a handful of new house photos on my FaceBook profile. Otherwise, they can be viewed on Flickr by clicking here.

Enjoy!

Until tomorrow,
Dave T.

Less than 3 days until we close on our new house! Everything was set in stone today between 4 and 5pm. I will post new photos Wednesday or Thursday...

Here are some of the thought provoking conversations we have shared with sweet little Daphne over the last few days:

  • "Daddy, do you like cheese? My love it alot!"

  • "My tand on tep-tool (stand on step stool) and bwush my teeth."

  • "Weddy or not, here my come! I going to find you!" (playing hide-and-go-seek)

  • "Daddy, let's kiss Mommy together."

    And my absolute favorite:

  • "Mommy, leave my diaper off, my want to play with my tootie!"

Until tomorrow,
Dave T.

Our house inspection took place this afternoon for three and a half hours. My buyer's agent and I sat back and watched the inspector poke and prod every square inch of the home. He only found a handful of issues to be resolved prior to closing this week. In less than a week, we should take ownership of our new residence.

Daphne's off-and-on fever, persistent dry cough, occasional vomiting, and lack of appetite continues to worry us. On Friday, the doctor diagnosed Daphne with an ear infection, so she's on antibiotics (liquid Amoxicillin).

Here are some recent photos of Daphne having fun at the zoo:

Tonight, Jennie and I will meet with our buyer's agent and a representative of the builder for our final walk-through. The builder's representative told us last weekend to expect a mid-week completion. If all goes well, we will order a home inspection ASAP and schedule a new closing date allowing for the inspector's results to come back. Daphne could be playing in her new home a week from now!

Daphne has come down with a nasty cold and is coughing her head off at night. Sickness and colds are all to common with 2 year olds, I suppose.

More coming soon,
Dave T.

Happy Mother's Day!

Jennie and I attended a preliminary walk through and created our initial punch list on Saturday with a representative of the home builder. We left feeling pretty good about the potential of our new house. Our upgraded appliances are scheduled to be fully installed by mid-week.

We still need to buy a new refrigerator, washer, and dryer, but I have been thoroughly researching Consumer Reports at night.

Daphne and I went to the park today while Jennie & her mother began looking at new furniture. Enjoying a small bag of popcorn and a fountain lemonade at our local Super Target makes Daphne a happy camper!

Here's a new photo of Daphne from Saturday:

Hey y'all, it's Cinco de Mayo! Yeehaw...

Happy 40th birthday to my sister! Lordy, Lordy, Tammy is 40!

Unfortunately, there is nothing new to report on the purchase of our new house.

Here are several new photos of Daphne and our new home:

April 30

Earlier this week, Daphne looked up at me quizzically and said, "Daddy, stop sign is octagon". What a brilliant little girl! She can identify nearly all of her colors, shapes, numbers, and letters now. Before too long, she will be able to identify a dodecahedron without any difficulty.

The closing (selling our old home) was quick and painless yesterday. Jennie and I must have signed our name twenty times in the thirty minutes it took to complete the transaction with the title company. We get to do it all over again in a few weeks with our new home purchase (fingers crossed).

We are still waiting on a few upgraded kitchen appliances to arrive and an additional upgrade to the laundry room before we begin our punch list with the builder. After that is completed, we will order a home inspection and proceed to begin our closing process (assuming the lender has completed our loan).

Until tomorrow,
Dave T.

It's closing day and I cannot sleep!

Cross your fingers and toes for us to have an uneventful closing appointment. We hope to show up around 11am and sign our name a zillion times, collect a sizable equity check, and go home happy. The buyer is making a final walk-through earlier in the day (is this formality or can he really come back with additional items to negotiate?). Bye bye old house!

Our new house is slowly progressing. Several appliances have arrived (we are upgrading the dishwasher) and the landscaping is in place. The appraisal should be completed by this week's end.

Daphne is still adjusting to her new *temporary* surroundings at the apartment.

New photos coming soon...

Until tomorrow,

April 26

Three days into our temporary accommodations, Daphne has already asked to return to our *old home*. She cried in her crib last night, "Mommy, I want to go back, old home". Her sobs broke our hearts. I know that she will absolutely love the new house (we are still scheduled to close on May 27th). At the old house, I have to mow the lawn one final time before this Thursday.

Jennie, her father, and I packed boxes and moved miscellaneous household junk ALL weekend long (beginning on Friday morning and wrapping up Sunday evening). I have aches and pains from lifting, but we have much more to do. This morning, a professional moving company will be delivering the final *heavy* items to our apartment and storage unit.

May 27th cannot arrive soon enough...

Until tomorrow,
Dave T.
