Feeding Daphne yesterday was a success! She tolerated the baby rice cereal mixed with warm breast milk, but she absolutely loved the sweet potato baby food. Assuming she finishes the jar tomorrow, we will move on to carrots or peas. We also purchased a variety pack of Earth's Best apples, pears, and bananas. But, fruits are supposed to be fed after she has tasted all of the veggies, so she does not only crave the sweet stuff.

More later, Daphne is starting to wake up...

Daphne begins eating real food today! We will be driving over to Babies R Us this afternoon to buy a booster seat (instead of a high chair) and a variety pack of Earth's Best brand vegetable and fruit baby foods.

Here are some photos of Daphne's doctor visit yesterday:

Here are the results from Daphne's 6 month physical:

Weight - 14.0 lbs (14th percentile)
Height - 25.5 inches (38th percentile)
Head Circumference - 40.7 cm (9th percentile)

So, tonight we will be starting our petite Daphne on supplemental cereal mixed with breast milk. Daphne now babbles more than ever and is on the verge of crawling forward. She giggles when she pushes herself up on all fours and rocks back and forth.

Tomorrow is Daphne's 6-month check up with her doctor. She will have another round of shots while getting poked and prodded. Hopefully, she is progressing well with her head circumference, body weight, and length baseline. I realize every baby is different, but I want the best for my daffodil...

Back from our week long peregrination, life is nearly back to normal. Why does it take less than an hour to pack for a trip, but several weeks to unpack a suitcase?

Jennie and Daphne attended a cookout at my workplace yesterday. It was the first time my little princess had met many of my fellow coworkers. She was on her best behavior and full of smiles.

Last Saturday, Jennie and I celebrated 11 magical years of marriage. We spent the evening with my Mom, my Fake Dad, and my Parents-In-Law at a Panama City Beach eatery. Daphne fussed and cried off and on throughout our whole meal, but Mommy's boobs saved the day! No one in the restaurant seemed to mind Daphne's fomentation.

Over the next three days, I will be posting the best photos from our trip:

Whew! Jennie, Daphne, and I just got home from Florida; we are fully safe and sound...

The weather was great until Saturday afternoon when Tropical Storm Fay tried to spoil our trip by spilling countless hours of rain. After I unpack my bags and get Daphne adjusted to her normal sleep schedule again, I promise to share all the juicy details of the past week's adventures.

Here are a few quick photos from our trip:

We are still on vacation and I do not have a reliable internet connection, so I have not been able to blog.

I will be back with TONS OF PICTURES in just a few days!

Busily packing and making TO DO lists, we are getting ready for our upcoming vacation. In her brief life, Daphne has never been more than an hour away from home. So, we are crossing our fingers in hope of a peaceful journey.

Here are some photos of Daphne from this weekend...

Remember the old adage, "if you give a child an expensive toy, they will ignore the toy and play with the box for hours..."? Yesterday, Daphne happily played with an empty graham cracker box. Being at work, I am not sure how or why Daphne ended up with the cardboard container. Nevertheless, it is so cute to watch her grasp and kick in amazement at a simple box.

Daphne celebrated 24 weeks of life yesterday. Our little princess can almost crawl forwards (backwards and sideways are a breeze). Whether in her playpen, on the floor, or on the bed, Daphne loves to scratch her fingers over the different fabric textures. Her curiosity and awareness of her surroundings seems to be like a sponge; she loves to take it all in.

As promised, here are a few photos from yesterday:

I will post some new Daphne photos (or video) this weekend. Can you believe it has been a full week since I posted photos of her? Grammy and Grampy are probably missing their Daphne fix by now.

I earned a free lunch at Red Lobster yesterday by fixing several watches. My stomach seemed to agree that it was a terrific trade off. If you tuned into this season's "The Next Food Network TV Star" reality show, you might remember Kelsey's Macadamia Coconut Encrusted Tilapia with the Buttery White Chocolate Sauce (now served at Red Lobster). Oh mercy, that was probably the most heavenly lunch I have ever tasted. I highly recommend it!

Only a wee bit longer until Daphne gets to spend a few days with Grandma Margery and Grandpa Bill.

August 13

What a day! I am still plowing through Jennie's "Honey do" list on my day off. The big chores have been completed and it's all downhill from here! Since Costco takes nearly 4 hours to rotate and balance your tires and top off the Nitrogen levels, I followed Jennie in my car and we knocked out other chores at the same time (I could not possibly walk around Costco for 4 hours and not lose my mind).

I will be installing a digital water timer for our tomato garden this week. It would be a crying shame to lose all of those good ole 'maters when we go on vacation soon. I doubt it will rain while we are gone and I simply do not trust my neighbors to water my plants. :)

Daphne threw a mild tantrum during lunch today at TGI Fridays. And, who could blame her? She desperately needed to take a nap, but she was much too busy "people watching" instead. The little sweet pea is sleeping now as I type...

This is what Jennie and I will see in our future...

After Daphne wakes up from her rest, Jennie and I will tote her over to our new Kroger. Thankfully, they are open 24 hours a day (in case she sleeps longer than the average bear). And before you know it, Hump Day will be over and I will return to work in the morning.

Until tomorrow,
Dave T.

Monday

August 11

Monday morning is here already. Where do the weekends go? Oh well, I have no complaints now that my work schedule is now divided into two equal segments each week (having every Wednesday off is a great relief!).

With our assistance, Daphne attempts to crawl small distances by pushing off of our hands with her legs. Once she gets enough traction, Daphne will be unstoppable. She does seem more interested in sitting up and assisted walking, though. Holding her little hands and guiding her through the house, she kicks her legs with great intensity; she is very determined and anxious to begin walking. If we could only get her to mow the yard and do the laundry, we would be set! hehehe

I installed a wireless router yesterday at the house of my parents-in-law. Nowadays, there is nothing better than "surfing the 'Net" while using the bathroom!

Until tomorrow,

Happy 8/8/8 day! (August 8th, 2008)

The Olympics are now underway in China and hockey season is only a mere 57 days away. Will you be tuning in to watch any of the Olympic events? Perhaps swimming, basketball, or track & field? Personally, I enjoy the winter Olympics more and we all know why, *grumble* Ice Hockey *grumble*.

Grumpy and uncooperative, Daphne had one of her rare "I-don't-want-to-take-a-nap" afternoons today. Poor Jennie had to endure the fussiness while I worked. We have been tremendously lucky to experience at least five good days a week where Daphne is an absolute princess. But, the remaining days we have to cope with "demon baby" from the black lagoon.

I am posting some more photos taken this past Wednesday. Pardon the deja vu... (new material coming soon)

Until tomorrow,

Wednesday

August 6

Jennie and I began the day with a routine, semi-annual dental cleaning. Grammy entertained Daphne while our chompers were polished. Our little daffodil behaved beautifully as we shopped and ran errands for several hours in the afternoon.

After supper tonight, Jennie noticed that Daphne can *almost* sit up by herself (without falling over). I don't want to be one of those "my kid is so advanced" parents, but developmentally, she is a few weeks early. hehehe

I relaxed this evening by repairing a broken watch. I will spare you the boring details, but let's just say I could be a watchmaker once I retire from computer programming! I am hoping (assuming) arthritis is not in my future...

Daphne will be 23 weeks old this Friday. She can nearly crawl, almost sit up by herself, almost has her first tooth, and can almost say, "da da". It will not be too much longer until she's all grown up and looking for a hubby.

Stat of the day: We have taken 1,471 photos of Daphne since February 29th. A whopping 1.73 gigabytes of still images and over 90 minutes of video are ready to be archived.

I began my "flexible" work schedule this week. Due to rising gas costs, we were given the creative freedom to alter our schedule in any way that would give us 40 hours per week. My plan is to work ten hour shifts on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. With my additional off day on Wednesdays, I now have two weekends each week to rest my brain!

Daphne is going to be a talker! She wakes up each morning around 4am and happily talks (gibberish) to herself. I don't know if she's simply testing out her newly found voice or if she's trying to "wish" her mobile to begin playing. I love the look on her face when I sneak into her room unexpectedly. Daphne's ear-to-ear grin is priceless!

More pictures this evening...

Until tomorrow,

Sunday

August 3

Happy Tax Free Weekend! (for Tennessee residents) If Daphne's bath goes well and she's not terribly fussy, we might visit the shoe store and take advantage of the tax free festivities.

Yesterday afternoon, we snapped 165 photos of Daphne and uploaded the best ones to Snapfish. If I somehow left you off of the Snapfish invitation, let me know and I will gladly share the album with you.

Pre-MILESTONE alert: Daphne is about to get her first tooth! Running a finger over her lower gums, it feels like it could erupt any day now...

Daphne is almost able to sit up all by herself. This morning she weighed in at 14.6 pounds.

Here are a few photos from yesterday:

Guess who found her toes today? Daphne loves chewing on those little pink piggies!

"My toes taste great!"

Jennie called me at work today with some terrific news. Daphne is beginning to crawl! While she travels mostly in reverse, her slithering reptatory progresses daily. Before we know it, Daphne will be rearranging our pots and pans for fun.

"Learning to crawl is hard work, Daddy"

After a hard day of kicking her arms and legs under the mobile, learning to crawl, and sucking on her toes, Daphne readies herself for a nap.

Finally ready for some sleepytime

Until tomorrow,
Dave T.
