Daphne is 13 months old today!

Despite being dressed in pink outfits and dresses, Daphne was once again called a "pretty young man" today. Can you believe it? Why do little old ladies think she is a boy? Oh well, her hair will be in piggy tails before you know it.

I will be presented with concrete details on Monday regarding my future job. The fine print will be examined thoroughly...

Here are some new photos of Daphne:

Tonight, Jennie went out on the town with some girl friends and I spent some quality time with Daphne at home. Nothing excites Daphne more than watching a few DVR recorded episodes of Sesame Street, precariously perched in my lap, and slurping on her left hand's middle and ring fingers. Ahh yes, we enjoyed each other's company in silence (wedged in between a few random giggles toward Murray & Elmo).

Here are some new photos of Daphne acting silly:

Great news! I was given a verbal job offer this morning on the telephone and now await the official offer letter and employment packet. So, as you may guess, I am on cloud nine. More info later...

Daphne loves the outdoors! We took her to Long Hunter State Park over the weekend for some fresh air and exercise.

Here are some new photos of Daphne enjoying the Spring weather and modeling her new dresses:

Today I had a technical interview with a *potential* employer for over three hours. Wow! I have a pretty good feeling about the outcome. More info to come once I know the final details...

Daphne opened up the drawer under the stove this afternoon and stood in a cake pan. She has really become more mischievous in the past month (climbing, exploring, and basically being destructive). She adores opening cabinets and drawers to remove the contents onto the floor. On more than one occasion, we have caught Daphne pulling several Kleenex out of a tissue box for fun. It's simply not possible to get mad at her when she stares up at you with those little blue eyes and her devilish grin...

Here are some new photos of Daphne removing all of the socks out of Mommy's sock drawer and a few of her watching Sesame Street with Daddy:

Springtime weather seems to be finally upon us. Today was sunny and 75 degrees in the heart of middle Tennessee. While home for lunch, I watched Daphne play on our deck and wave to the birds, squirrels, and trees.

I hope to provide some great news about my job search early next week...

MILESTONE ALERT: Daphne can now climb onto the couch all by herself! She is constantly trying to climb on anything and everything (e.g., furniture, window sills, shoe boxes, toys).

Daphne loves strawberries. Mmmm. She's not terribly keen on her veggies these days, but she has begun to enjoy several new foods such as whole milk, grilled chicken, cheesy ditalini, and corn bread.

When I draw Daphne's bath at night, she blazes into the bathroom wearing her birthday suit and screaming happy little "aaahhhhs" (she yells louder than the running water).

I had a terrific telephone interview today with a potential employer. I will keep you posted if I receive any job offers...

Daphne tried a few bites of pizza last night for the first time. As you can see in the photos below, she really enjoyed it. Daphne had a great time playing with the tomato sauce, cheese, and bits of crust.

Happy Friday the 13th!

Daphne has a new trick! She loves prancing around the house with tiny plastic containers and their accompanying lids (see the last photo below). Each time Daphne removes a lid and replaces it, her eyes glow with excitement. It's quite funny how the repetitive routine never gets old.

I give up. I surrender. Sadly, I am waving a white flag of ignorance. I have no idea what to report regarding my current employment. While I will continue to report the facts as events occur, I cannot accurately make any future predictions.

The only certainty: my current employer's Nashville facility is permanently closed down on April 17th. So, here's to me biting my tongue and closing my trap! hehehe

On a brighter note, enjoy these photos I took of Daphne tonight:

Evening Update: 10:54pm -- Here are some new photos of Daphne at play:

If I were a gambling man, I would wholeheartedly bet that my employer "releases" me this week. My code is complete and nothing remains to be done (other than preparing for potential interviews). Wish me luck! I need a job...

I stand corrected on Daphne's heart murmur. Jennie informed me over the weekend that I did not explain it correctly in my latest blog entry. So, without further ado, I will attempt to provide one of my famous peanut butter and jelly sandwich explanations: (just the facts, ma'am)

It is suspected that Daphne was born with a very common VSD (ventricular septal defect). The alleged hole between her right and left ventricle is not taxing her heart in any way and it appears to be closing (as it should be around 1 year of age).

Daphne's doctor had never heard a murmur before her last visit, so he believes the reason he hears it now is because it IS closing and becoming normal. Imagine a water hose that is pinched with a little water escaping -- this "pffftt" is the sound of the murmur and the hole hopefully closing.

The doctor will check Daphne again at 15 months of age to see if the murmur is gone. If not, she will be ordered to see a cardiologist.

Daphne had a great weekend and continues to say new words like "doggie", "papa", and "duck-duck". Her all-time favorite phrase is still "mama mama mama".

More photos soon...

Daphne had a precautionary EKG on Wednesday. The results came back Friday morning and her little heart is normal.

During her physical on Tuesday, Daphne's doctor discovered a slight heart murmur. To rule out a possible birth defect, he ordered an EKG. No worries; Daphne is going to be fine...

Today we took Daphne to a local park for some exercise. She absolutely loves the baby swing and going down the slide (with Mommy & Daddy's help, of course).

Here are some photos from today:

Daphne visited the doctor today for her one year physical. Here are her stats:

HEIGHT = 29 inches (47th percentile, up from 27th at 9 month visit)
WEIGHT = 18 pounds 2 ounces (8th percentile, down from 10th at 9 month visit)
HEAD CIRCUMFERENCE = 43.7 cm (14th percentile, up from 10th at 9 month visit)

Daphne is basically a skinny Minnie of average height. Developmentally, she appears to be several months advanced in her fine motor skills and upright mobility. She already understands the concept of sharing her toys or whatever is in her hand.

I honestly have no idea when I will be "released" at work, but it should be very soon. Each morning, I slide into my pants not knowing if it is my final day. Scary stuff, but it's reality and I have accepted it. Oh well, enough of my rambling. I am confident that an exciting, local business in town will require my services sooner than later; everyone needs a good code monkey on their payroll!

Some of the photos below are a little blurry as Daphne was dancing back and forth. Enjoy!

Until tomorrow,
